Special Court Jails Govinda Raj Joshi for Corruption.

Former Minister and NC leader Govinda Raj Joshi is convicted of the corruption charges by Special Court today on the graft case filed by Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). Court with the bench of judges Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise gives the verdict to jail him for 1.5 years and slapped a penalty of Rs 21.4 million.

Eight Years ago, CIAA filed a case alleging him of corruption of Rs 39.3 million by abusing authority during his home ministry tenure.
Earlier in 2006, SC acquitted him of the graft charges.
But later Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed an appeal at the apex court claiming that the acquittal was wrong because prosecution on corruption case does not have any statute of limitation for prosecuting anyone in a graft charge. So earlier in Jan this year, SC had returned the case citing the improper acquittal in the graft charges.
This is series of verdicts against Ministers who were involved in abuse of Authority after Chiranjibi Wagle and Jay Prakash Gupta were charged with imprisonment.
