Teej is a festival for Hindu women (esp in Nepal and India) in which the married ones fast for long life of their husband and children whereas unmarried girls don't even drink water to get a good husband in their life. The festival normally takes place on the third day of Shukla pakshya (bright moon fortnight) of Shrawan month but this year, the festival falls on Ashoj 2.
Marking the reunion of Lord Shiva and Parbati, Teej is celebrated for three days with lavish feasts in the night before the dawn (dar khane din), fasting the next day (barta basne din) and Richi Panchami. Women wear red saries, red kurtas and even everything red from head to toe in the festival and dance to the traditional teej songs even in the fasting days (barta basne din).
But, these days Teej is being celebrated for a whole month, with friends and family gathering at someone's place or even at a party palace to have exquisite feasts and dancing to the teej folk songs. Some women rights group/activists/organization even organize such gatherings (now termed as Teej party) to have nice time together and raise women rights issues.
