Nepal Telecom to deliver high speed Internet service through WiMax.

Nepal Telecom is all set to start the work of 4G WiMax project with a US based Company named Airspan. After receiving the Spectrum in 2.3 GHz by NTA (Nepal Telecommunication Authority) without any trouble last year, and this current contract with Airspan, NT will deliver high speed wireless data services throughout Nepal within a year. Four Telecom Vendors ZTE, Huawei, Airspan and PointRed vied for executing this project, out of which Airspan won the competition to roll out the 780 million Rs Project to all municipalities and VDCs. This project will be separated into two parts, one towards the west covering 1,923 VDCs and 24 municipalities, another in the west covering 2,092 VDCs and 34 municipalities.
NT has also planned to provide at least 256 kbps of data speed (uplink and downlink) to its customers in remote and city areas.Currently NT has ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscribers line), WCDMA (Wideband CDMA), EVDO (Evolution Data Only), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node) technologies to provide internet service to its customers.

WiMax is a wireless broadband access technology for delivering high speed internet to a Wide Area, offering maximum throughput of 75 Mbps. Though the concept of using base station and the core part to deliver the service is same, it is taken as completely different to the existing cellular technology used for mobile communication. Currently, WiMax is battling out with another 4G technology LTE Advanced to be the superior technology for delivering high Speed Internet but none of them is the winner till now.

When will this be launched? We just keep on hearing the planning of new technologies but we are very very slow getting them accessed practically.

Just for example, I use NT prepaid number and I want to have 3G without changing my number BUT.. you do not yet have this facility for my number 984120.. so I'm still on GPRS which wastes lots of time due to its slow and unreliable connectivity.

I'm willing to pay for the service but NT is incapable to provide me the facility. This seems very helpless situation to me and you (NT) should feel the same and act asap.

NT has decided to go with WiMax instead of LTE BUT, new ipad (most advanced tablets) is made for 4G LTE.. since the giant company had decided to go with LTE for me I think LTE is winning now. Don't you think NT choosed the loser technology? (WiMax)

We are very sorry for your inconvenience. We could only solve your problem after the implementation of new project in GSM. Yes latest gadgets support LTE which we are bringing in another project that is compatible with GSM. We are dedicating this whole wimax project to data service instead of putting data only as add on (coming either with PSTN or mobile), that what happened to all previous services....ADSL, WCDMA, EVDO and Voice always get the priority. So I salute you for your patience, we wont put you down in delivering good services asap. Thank you.

@AashX: You could get the 3G in your 984120XXX range as well, just have a patience a little more. Within 15-20 days time your wish to get a NT 3G service in your number will be available. In fact all the 9841XX after the modification can have the access to NT 3G network. Thanking you once again being with the NT network

Thanks for your concern....you will need a wi-max usb dongle to attach with your laptop to use this service. Also there are other wi-max enabled handsets in the market. If you want to use tab/pad for wimax, then ipad is not the option.
