With 2068 having new taste and successful movies like Loot and Chapali height, 2069 has some good movies line up for screening. Among them Apabad stands out as much promising movie that Movie lovers will definitely watch it. Raj Ballav Koirala and Nisha Adhikari starer Apabad is directed by Subash Koirala, which revolves around a talented Nepali having his own set of ideals and beliefs, plus his dream of better future. The movie is going to release on Jestha 5/ May 18 in Nepal, Australia and USA simultaneously (for the first time?). We can see countdown of the movie release, all over social media and the hype it has created among people makes it one of the most awaited movie this year. Through the promo and the official notes, I smell some kind of tragic end like the death of protagonist, and some people even dare to say its a Nepali remake of Into the wild but to know the exact truth, we will have to wait for 20 more days.

It's been a while since we enjoyed the cinematic excellence of director/producer/writer Quentin Tarantino, my Best Movie man from Hollywood and the man behind the hits like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Hostel. He set afoot in this business as a independent film-maker and later established himself as peculiar film maker in the mainstream Hollywood. Keshav Sthapit to lead Kathmandu Development Commission.

Keshav Sthapit, the last mayor of Kathmandu, is assigned to lead Kathmandu Valley Development Commission established just today. Though Government is going through many campaigns like Road widening Campaign, Squatter Managing Campaign, Kathmandu Sanitation Campaign to manage and improve the metropolitan city, it has not culminated yet. In this pretext, Government of Nepal establishes the Commission and appoints him in the leading post due to his popular actions to revamp the whole Kathmandu in his tenure before. He is popular among people as a vision-er and doer for the development of a city. Road widening in Kalanki-Rabhi bhawan section, demolition of houses at Maitighar and Tinkune are the most caught on works by him. He had resigned from the post due to death threats from the then Rebel Maoists. Facebook phone due from HTC this year?

HTC is reportedly working "in cooperation" with Facebook on a customized smartphone, set to be launched in Q3 2012 at the earliest, reports DigiTimes.

HTC worked with Google on the original Nexus One, but the search turned mobile giant took its relationship to Samsung to develop its Nexus branded smartphones. HTC was left out in the dark, and its market share has fallen, and its profits dropped by 70 percent in Q1 2012 alone.

Samsung has the largest slice of the market share pie, while HTC holds out in fifth place with a fraction of Samsung's share, according to recent ComScore statistics.

It makes perfectly good sense for HTC to climb back up the ladder and find its own niche. If Samsung has Nexus, and Apple has the iPhone, HTC can go an entirely different direction and build a dedicated Facebook phone.

But it's not the first time we've heard of a "Facebook phone," nor will it be the last. The report said:

"The new Android smartphone being developed by HTC will have a platform exclusive to Facebook to enable and integrate all functions available on the social networking site, the sources indicated. Previously, HTC launched two Facebook-enabled smartphones, the Salsa and Chacha."

When Facebook's "Buffy" smartphone was rumored last year, it was quickly thought of as a viable product. The rumours slipped away and little more was thought about it.

But Facebook has repeatedly said it is not looking to build a dedicated handset, nor will it allow any phone manufacturer to call any of their devices a 'Facebook phone', as ZDNet's Emil Protalinski writes. Despite this, there have been a number of attempts at making Facebook-like handsets, with dedicated hardware keys and tight integration with the mobile operating system.

DigiTimes sources say the launch of its own-brand smartphones will be a valuable source of income for the company after it goes public. Instead, it seems Facebook is simply trying to get its software on every smartphone and cellphone it can, without throwing its efforts into a market it likely won't win in the face of its competitors.

In the meantime, the HTC One series is all that keeps the company going. Without Facebook's weight behind a phone, HTC needs to aggressively compete again. But as ZDNet's James Kendrick notes, HTC's situation shows how hard it is for Google's Android partners to play in the smartphone space, forcing them to compete with other partners along with their competitors.

With his voice being compared to legendary singer like Sting, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel, Australian Singer/Musician Wouter "Wally" De Backer popularly knowns as Gotye has his single Somebody that I used to know top the Billboard chart this week and it already topped the iTunes Top 100 single charts. Before Gotye's recognition in US, he had already hit the charts in 18 countries including Australia, Belgium, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Denmark. As of April 24, the single has 176 Million views in Youtube and 4.5 million copies sales. People say the video is also responsible for the ballistic pick up of the break-up song. Also the vocals of New Zealand Singer/song writer Kimbra adds much freshness to the song, which is compared to the newness brought by singer Adele.

Beach Cricket 2012

This is the second time, we (NT) participated in Beach Cricket, earlier it was in 2010. Shangri-La Cricket Academy has been organizing this event since 2010, that year it was promoted with a campaign under Nepal Tourism Year 2011. Two teams from NTC, (NTC Red and NTC Blue) were participating in this two day long event held at River Side Spring Resorts, Kurintar on 20-21 April. Altogether of 16 teams in 4 pools played seriously for fun in game of 5 overs of which only the top teams in each pool went to the semi-finals. NTC 'Blue' entered into semi-final defeating Nepal Tourism Board and Chaudhary Group but lost to Rolling Plans by 15 runs in the first semifinals. In the second semifinal, Nimbus Nepal Defeated Himalayan Distillery by 8 runs. And in the final match, Rolling Plans defeated Nimbus Nepal by 4 wickets chasing a target of 50 runs.

NTC Red managed to get one win over President Travel and Tours by 4 wickets. Other teams include British College, Mercantile Exchange, WWF 'Panda', WWF 'Tiger', APF (Armed Police Force), Surya Nepal.This year it was quite different with teams obliged to include a female participant otherwise the team would be penalized of 30 runs.
Best Cheering Team Went to APF who had brought a platoon(??) to hail their game. Best Male Player went to Rahul Pyakurel from Rolling Plan with a total of 94 runs and Rashu Lama from Rolling Plans was awarded Best female player.

GON declares Baishak 11 a public holiday.

Finally Government of Nepal (GON) has declared Baishak 11, a public holiday. The day marks the stepping down of the then King Gyanendra and the reinstatement of House of Representatives, on Baishak 11, 2063 after 19 day long mass movement (popularly known as Jana Andolan II and 2062/63 Andolan) of Seven Party Alliance (SPA) backed by CPN Maoists. This day is being celebrated as a Democracy day ( Loktantra Diwas) by former Governments.

Earlier the Madhesi Morcha-Maoist Alliance Government had not included this day in the list of public holidays and wanted to skip this celebration. But due to pressure from other parties and caring public sentiments, GON announced the decision in a cabinet meeting on Sunday.

Anthony Hopkins to play Hitchcock.

Legendary Actor Anthony Hopkins is going to play famed director, Alfred Hitchcock who is the creator of the 1960 classic horror "Psycho". The movie entitled Hitchcock is based on the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho"by Stephen Rebello with a story of how Hitchcock made the horror flick in an era when people were skeptic of horror films. Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) is directing Hitchcock, written by John McLaughlin (Black Swan) and based on the book by Stephen Rebello. Anthony Hopkins plays Hitchcock and is supported by a great cast including Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid).

The folks in Palo Alto dropped a "Listen" button on artist pages today, giving you access to popular tracks instantly. Situated right beside the ever important "Like" button, the new feature first asks if you'd like to open your favorite music-streaming app -- either Spotify, MOG, Slacker Radio or Rdio. If you've yet to link a service to FB, it'll ask which you'd prefer to use. Once prompted in Spotify, for example, the app heads to the band's library and begins playing selections from the Top Hits category. The "Listen" button then becomes a play / pause control and clicking one on another artist's page makes the change in the app in a flash. To grab a look at the new control in action, head to your band of choice to give it a try.

Namrata to play Kollywood.

Namrata Shrestha, leading actress from Nepal admitted of her signing into a movie "Kollywood" to be directed by Nawaraj Acharya. Earlier Sahana Bajracharya and Simpal Khanal's names were tagged along with the movie. Sahana Bajracharya, first Runner up for Miss Nepal 2010 told media of her break with the movie due to busy schedules though she was present in the first press meet for the announcement of the movie. Also Gorgeous Simpal Khanal had to resort to Facebook to react to the news of her affiliation with the movie "Kollywood". Ultimately Namrata Shrestha is going to do the film according to merocinema.com, but the details are not yet out when the shooting starts for her second movie opposite Aryan Sigdel, as she is currently busy doing the movie "Chadke".

The Avengers Preview.( Release date update)

UPDATE: People in Nepal who were eagerly waiting for this movie will have to wait for two more weeks, due to the official set back of the release date by Disney. QFX in it's Facebook page says the movie will be releasing on 11th of May, shattering plans of many who were excited watching it before US denizens. Officials in QFX say they have already got the movie in their hard drive but could not release due to their compliance with some distribution system.

We still got 10 days to watch the superhero assemble "The Avengers" (even titled "Avengers Assemble" in some places), based on the Marvel comics. The movie features a group of superheroes that includes Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor to save the world from Loki. This is the sixth installment of a Marvel movie flick, one of the much awaited movies this summer. Marvel are working hard to what it takes to promote the movie including iPhone, iPod touch, iPad apps available now in the iTunes App store. All the movie buffs, get ready for the biggest flick this season with multifold super action,and amazing special effects. And it's gonna be tough for Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Night sequel as Avengers leaves them far behind in this chase to top the charts. Also people are making wide guesses in which superhero character dies in the movie, but I don't wanna get inside this to stay away from real spoilers and it will be only known to you when the movie unfolds on April 27 here in QFX, a week ahead of U.S. release. Facebook to acquire Instagram for $1 billion

Facebook chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg announced Monday that the social network has agreed to acquire Instagram, the popular photo-sharing mobile app.

Instagram launched for the iPhone in 2010. The app lets users upload or take photos and apply filters to get a similar look and feel of lo-fi photography. After photos are processed users can immediate be broadcast to other Instagram users, Twitter or Facebook via the app.
The popular app has already garnered 30 million iOS users and it was recently reported that 1 million Android users joined on the first day of launch. 

TechCrunch reports Facebook will pay $1 billion in cash and stock for Instagram. The photo-sharing app will remain a separate entity from Facebook, but will have "increasing ties to each other." 

"It's important to be clear that Instagram is not going away," Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom wrote on a blog post. "The Instagram app will still be the same one you know and love.

Here is what Mark posted on his Facebook page.

I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram's experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook's strong engineering team and infrastructure.

Google Project Glass: Sci-fi is happening

When you were watching Sci-fi movies, I am sure you must be wondering when we would be able to do such cool stuffs in the real world. Now the Sci-fi  is gonna be here with the latest product to be launched from Google. Project Glass, Google's highly secretive (Google X lab) project, released photos and a video in YouTube on Wednesday to preview the rumoured technology from a long time in the form of Goggles. After this people will have another good reason to wear specs and it even looks cool.

I still remember the specs that Tom Cruise wears after climbing a steep cliff in opening of movie MI2 and the information he gets after wearing the specs. This kind of information storing and presentation seems possible with this current revealation, but not sure about the self destruction thing in 5 seconds..lol.

The released video, titled "One Day …" depicts what a day in the life of a Google glasses-wearer would be like. Shown literally through the eyes of a hip downtown New Yorker, the video starts with the glasses booting up. A series of icons flash into his field of vision, Terminator-style. He checks his calendar and the weather, chats and shares photos with friends in his circles and listens to music.
This video is going like a fire in the socialmedia, provoking people to share, add comments in the Google Plus, youtube links. But the launch date seems not in near future and lot of questions are unanswered with the operability and technicalities of the device. Here is what Google posted in Google Plus profile named Project Glass.

Teliasonera now invests in Nepal Satellite

Teliasonera, the parent company of Ncell having 60.4% stake, now has indirect investment in another Mobile operator in Nepal, Nepal Satellite Telecom(hello mobile). It has indirectly acquired 51 percent of the shares in the Cypriot holding company Airbell Services Ltd.(Cyprus based company), which owns 50 percent of the shares in Rural telecom operator Nepal Satellite Telecom Pvt. Ltd which is going to operate GSM mobile all over Nepal.

Though Nepal Satellite Director Ajay Sumargi found unaware of the purchase, Teliasonera has the Rs 2.13 Billion (170 Million USD) acquisition of Nepal Satellite which is equivalent 50,000 Shares in the company, included in its 2011 annual report. Nepal Satellite currently holds 14.6 MHz GSM frequency (5.6 in 900 + 9 in 1800) with 1 lakh Customers in Rural Area of Mid Western Developement Region (MWDR). And with the license, it can operate GSM mobile all over Nepal.

Recent withdrawal of some shares in Cambodia, Teliasonera has announced it will increase its ownership in Ncell. With such announcement and acquirement, Teliasonera is going to stay firm in Nepal, and the competition will be more tough for the government owned Nepal Telecom to stay in No. 1 Telecom operator. But as there is no provision of Spectrum sharing in Nepal, it is unknown how this acquirement will have effect in the telecom scenario of Nepal.

Nokia's first LTE device to hit US.

Nokia,a pioneer in mobile communication is all set to release new smartphone Lumia 900, a direct successor to 800 but with bigger 4.3" Screen and LTE enabling. Nokia lumia 900 is a windows 7.5 Mango powered phone with 1.4 GHz processor, 700MHz 1700/2100 MHz LTE Support and 8 MP camera with dual led flash. Nokia and Microsoft are moving aggressively with their first LTE device, selling it for $99 on two year contract with AT&T or $450 without contract, scheduled to release on April 8 in US. It's a surprise to many when this new Lumia is found to be without NFC(Near Field Communication) feature (own patent) for mobile wallet as many android phones has it now..

With the release of this slick design flagship in US, Nokia hopes to regain its market share, competing with iPhone and android. So its gonna be like Nokia and Microsoft partner to take on the duopoly of Apple and Google. Going through the Web, there are mixed reviews regarding the fate of this device. Some say its gonna be the comeback of giant Nokia, with alluring price tag for 4G LTE. Some say it's a risky business for Nokia as prediction is seen below million sales in the first three months in US. while others argue that the pioneer must have something good to offer for this 16 GB sleek polycarbonate enclosed device. And people like many in Asia will go for it, having blind faith in Nokia, once LTE network is available.

My initial impressions is very positive with the good looks and the LTE 700 MHz which Nepal Telecom is going to bring later this year. And this is for all who don't want to get in the flood of iPhone and android. So can this be in the list of gadgets I own?? I think it's very early to say that. And I bet Nokia is coming with another shot soon to compete with iPhone 5.

NT fourth AGM concluded

Nepal Telecom, having the biggest market capitalization in Nepalese share market, almost one fourth of the total capitalization, has organized its fourth Annual General Meeting today. With almost 7.3 M subscribers, NT has increased its annual revenues by near 10% to sum Rs 29 Billion and 850 Million, and the net profit (after taxes) is increased by 12.5% to sum Rs 12 Billion and 120 Million. 

In presence of around 500 shareholders in Nepal Army Officers Club Premises, NT fourth AGM has decided to give 45 percent dividend to its shareholders based on the profit for the fiscal year 2010-2011. The Meeting also decided to appoint Kuber and company ( Senior Charter Accountant Kuber Sharma) as the Auditor of the Company. 

NT has also promised for fast and smooth implementation of upcoming projects for the cheap and good quality network. As Government of Nepal has already decided to bring forth the procedure for inviting Strategic partner in NT, NT wants to easily face the present challenges with it for Shareholders value maximization.

Katy Perry Perform in IPL opening (with video update)

Chennai: Pop icon Katy Perry landed in India for her show at the opening of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and says she is honoured to be in the country.

After taking a flight from Tokyo, she tweeted: “After what felt like longest flight ever I’m finally here! Honoured to play Chennai! This is my first performance in India.”The 27-year-old, set to enthrall the audience with her hits likeFireworks and California Gurlsarrived here Monday.

“Almost fell asleep in my curry last night, no joke… Woke up feeling so much better after a fresh meditate… feels appropriate being in India,” she tweeted Tuesday.

This is not the first time the singer is visiting India. She tied the knot with now estranged husband Russell Brand in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony in India in October 2010.

Facebook to take over IT park at Banepa: A RETSKNARP

BANEPA/CALIFORNIA: When Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and chief executive of Facebook — the world’s largest social network with more than 800 million active users around the world — was spotted in Kathmandu yesterday, it could only mean something big was going down.

The story emerging from a joint sting operation involving a team of The Himalayan Times journalists and scribes in California could prove to be one of the biggest scoops ever for Nepal and IT.

Officials who tried to avoid going into too many details have, however, confirmed that Zuckerberg is closing a deal worth almost USD 50 million with the government of Nepal to take over the IT Park at Banepa, which was offered as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the development of information technology.

When tracked down, Zuckerberg did admit he was on an “unscheduled trip to Nepal to finalise some important deals”. He informed he has signed a record deal with young Nepali IT entrepreneur S Bajracharya, founder of sunglow.com, a nepali networking site and negotiated the use of certain apps featured on that site by Facebook. “It is a dream come true to be able to sell an app developed in Nepal, which will be used on Facebook and to meet Mark Zuckerberg in person,” Bajracharya said.

Zuckerberg who was “vacationing in Shanghai” with his girl friend, arrived in Nepal on a Thai Airways flight via Bangkok on Thursday and is staying at Hotel Radisson. He will be leaving for Tibet today.

The IT Park at Banepa was established over seven years ago with investment almost touching Rs 300 million. Earlier, international IT companies like Dutch software firm Javra and IBM had shown interest but never really took off due to various logistic problems. Sprawled over 12 hectares of land along the Banepa-Panauti road, the IT Park has separate buildings for administration, commercial and residential purposes. It has the capacity of engaging 144 engineers. It also has facility of electricity, telephone, VSAT and optical fibre cable.

Facebook also plans to develop the entire area as an IT city and invest further in infrastructure as well as construction of housing, banks, schools, entertainment centres, malls, swimming pools and even a helipad.

Officials at Facebook Inc headquarters in Menlo Park, California did confirm that there was a huge project in Nepal in the pipeline and that all their new plans and projects to develop various apps and their new dating site ‘datebook.com’ would be launched first in Nepal.

“Operating out of Nepal will result in even lower cost than outsourcing,” informed John Morgan, CFO of Facebook Inc. Herbert Redford, regional director of Facebook for Asia said that since the highest number of Facebook users were in the sub-continent, Facebook had been looking at stronger presence and bigger operations with Asian focus.

“Cheap and skilled manpower, a decade tax holiday for investors like us and subsidies on import of appliances and hardware offered by the government of Nepal make it a perfect deal that we just could not say no to,” he states. Zuckerberg himself stated that he was impressed by the level of trained IT professionals in the country and that the deal was a win-win situation for both Nepal and Facebook. He said the relocation of foreign experts would also mean technology transfer that would help Nepal emerge as an IT leader in the region, especially with its strategic position between two of the world’s fastest growing economies — China and India.

While Nepal government officials refused to confirm or divulge any information — honestly claiming they were “totally in the dark” — a highly placed source in the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the developments, stating that talks had been on since the last six months, which actually inspired the government to boldly announce Nepal Investment Year 2012-13.

Rakesh Bhattarai, chief of the Investment Board, is believed to have been instrumental in striking the deal. “It puts Nepal on the global IT map and will certainly provide a boost to FDI, with all eyes now on investment opportunities in Nepal.” He says that the way forward is to set up special economic zones and invite investors to build, operate and develop various sectors that are crucial for Nepal.
