Sajha Yatayat to add 30 new buses

March 24, 2016: Sajha Yatayat, the co-operative for public transport is known to add 30 new buses in Kathmandu. Currently Sajha is running 16 buses in Kathmandu city with four routes, which is known to extend to more destinations inside the city with the new buses. Sajha and Ashok Leyland have signed an agreement to procure those buses, with the support of Kathmandu Municipality. It is known that the buses will start plying in Ktm roads within 4 months from today itself. I believe that the current problem of urban public transport (especially in office time) will be solved with the addition of such buses. Recently Mahanagar Yatayat, a private transport investment gained popularity among Kathmandutians with 39 buses around ring-road and the route or bus expansion to follow next.
It was in Baishak 2070 (around 2 years ago) that Sajha buses were relaunched in Kathmandu with 16 buses, after massive political interference led closure in 2058 B.S. As the buses were operated even in the strike / crisis period and can carry around 100 people at a time, this service aided in reducing the urban transport problem for such huge population in Kathmandu. The four operational routes are from Airport to Tripureshwor to Kalanki and Lagankhel to Ratnapark to Narayan Gopal Chowk to New Bus park and the return path for both route. As people were demanding the bus service in different parts of Kathmandu, Kathmandu Municipality had decided one year ago to add some more buses in Sajha Yatatyat.

The new buses are known to be same size whereas it will be incorporating more no of passengers as the standing space will be more due to lesser no of seats (2 seats on either side). As told earlier by Sajha head Mr. Kanak Mani Dixit, the new buses will be disable friendly which will be a great step for the development of public transport service in the capital city.

First underground cells deployed by Ericsson

March 21, 2016: Ericsson has deployed world's first underground site for Small cells in Switzerland, for Swisscom. The site uses Ericsson's vault Remote radio unit and in-ground microcell antenna system, put inside the underground vault/ Man holes where optical fiber is already available. Due to reuse of existing assets and underground space, the total cost of ownership (TCO) will be reduced by 50 percent. This innovation will help the network to handle thousands of Gigabits of data in LTE, offloading the existing macro cells. It is known to be extended to 250 new sites, enabling more seamless data connections on the go. As Ericsson tells, this sort of solution will also be useful while rolling out 5G.

While Nepal is facing huge setback in the improvement/ up-gradation of Mobile networks in cities due to unwillingness of house-owner to rent their buildings be it for Earthquake torn sites or new Roll-out sites, can we use some technology near to this solution?. The question arises whenever there is discussion among the operators, regulator and the building owners. As the vault sites provides coverage and capacity that of small cells, it is only limited to the roads and the vicinity. The vaults that will be used is also not available throughout the city areas, hinders the usability of this solution for the unplanned habitants whereas combination of pole sites with this underground vaults may be feasible for providing mobile networks to the people. Lets wait for another innovation to reach us or bring the innovation that is ideal for our environment, for now I keep figuring what could it be.

Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 Roundup

Feb 21, 2016: The biggest and the most important exhibition of Mobile technology be it towards consumer side or the network side is happening tomorrow. It is the time of the year for Mobile World Congress at Mobile World Capital, Barcelona from Feb 22 to Feb 25, 2016. The who's who in Mobile industry will be attending the show to either present the technologies or features or gadgets that are about to release in time or have a much more insight to those brought up by others. This years slogan is "Mobile is Everything". Yes Mobile is everything and everything is mobile, as it has the power to do everything (health monitor, commerce, communication and automation) and the future is more about Mobile with #5G, IoT and wearable techs. Here is the roundup of what are being showcased there.
Lab trials of 5G (now let it call 4.5G) has now shifted towards field trials to commercial launch which will be a major demonstration in the show. Some of the features that is known to be showcased are LTE-U, C-RAN, 3CC (Three component carrier Aggregation), COMP etc. Software upgrade in the existing LTE network to support IoT is also known to be put to light. All tel-co giants like Ericsson, Nokia etc are geared up to bring the new technology (5G) to the market early although it is planned to release in 2020.
EC-GSM/GPRS will also be on display for the Low power Wide Area(LPWA) IoT applications using large coverage area of 900 MHz, that is ideal to feed cellular data to the devices located in deep indoor locations like smart meters, infrastructure and agriculture sensing. In addition, new features for the most popular GSM technology from industry biggies like Ericsson, Huawei are also known to be featured there.

It also includes Word class conferences including the best professional and researchers sharing their views on upcoming technologies as key note speakers and panel discussion.
Virtual reality devices will have a greater presence in MWC 2016. Facebook, Sony, Google, Samsung might be offering their latest VR devices to come to the market next.
Major smartphone makers (except for Apple) are expected to launch their flagship phones and tablets in or around the show. Samsung Galaxy S7 (& S7 Edge), LG G5, Xiaomi Mi5 is known to be unveiled there along with smartphones from ZTE, Huawei, Sony, Lenovo and Microsoft. To me, Samsung Unpacked event for Galaxy S7 and Xiaomi's MI5 launch are the most hyped ones, and those will definitely be the best smartphones for this whole year.
The long talked modular phones also seems to be visible in some way to the show, might be from Google or LG.
Higher the speed, higher the screen resolution requires higher battery size along with increase in the weight/size of the phone which we don't want to increase. So the new innovations in battery technologies might be introduced to the show.
Other Hot topics include Smart cities, Autonomous vehicles, Advanced health monitoring and innovative apps.
Apart from all those, there may be some big surprises (like the recent 251 IRs 3G smartphone launch in India) that are always welcomed unless they are so ridiculous and deceptive.
Let the #bueno news keep coming from Catalonia.

Sep 29, 2015: Google has announced two new Nexus phones in the series of its own design and pure android smartphones. Nexus 5X and 6P, made by LG and Huawei respectively are unveiled in a Nexus event at San Francisco. The full metal body, 7.3 mm thin, comfy Nexus 6P has a display of 5.7 ", Snapdragon 810 64 bit processor underneath, 3450 mAh battery. Nepal implements odd even vehicle system

Sep 26, 2015: Government of Nepal has decided to implement odd even number system in the country from Sunday, due to the shortage of petroleum products in the country. As the essential supplies including fuels are unofficially blocked by India and some Madhes based parties are also blocking the major entry points, the petroleum products got deficient. Lots of vehicles were bound to queue up in the line for hours to get the fuel in the government/security forces owned petrol pumps. With the system, vehicles with odd number will be allowed to ply on the road on odd dates and even number vehicles on even dates. Home ministry has announced to implement the numbering system strictly from Sunday till the situation gets better. India has officially expressed  its resentment in the promulgation of new constitution over the agitation in Madhesh and even hinted some blockade. Though there is no any official announcement of blockade from India, the tanks carrying essential supplies and petroleum products have been blocked in all of the checkpoints and Indian Oil corporation have stopped to provide petroleum fuels to Nepal Oil corporation.
This sort of numbering system was implemented several times in some of the major events happened in Nepal like the SAARC summit, that time it was for reducing the number of vehicles plying in the road for traffic congestion but this time it is for the shortage of fuel.
