ICC confirms Nepal to Play Div 1

Exclusive: Jan 28, 2015: Nepali people were already feeling excited with the unconfirmed news of Nepal playing Div 1 despite resulting at 4th position in the WCL div 2. Our coach Pubudu Dassanayake had first told media about the chances of team to play Div one, after returning back from Namibia. Now it is confirmed that Nepal will be playing along Kenya in the ICC World Cricket League (which is the official name for Div 1 league) that will happen from 2015 to 2017. CricketingNepal reports the confirmation of the news that is decided today by ICC meeting in Dubai. It is known that Nepal and Kenya will replace Afghanistan and Ireland for the WCL, as it is decided to select both Afghnistan and Ireland for ICC World Cup Cricket 2019. The Div one play means a lot to the Nepali cricket team, fans and benefits the country as a whole, as it not only enables more funds to the local cricket board but also provides more international games for the development of our players. Let there be a full fledged International level Stadium and we will be hosting big International games here. Nepali Cricket has taken a big leap. NPL all set to start from May 14.

First ever Nepal Premier League (NPL) Cricket is all set to commence from May 14 in Dhangadi. After cancellation of two days format due to scorching weather, the 50 over match will be first held at Falpa ground of Kailali District from May 14, and the Twenty20 to follow from June 4 at TU stadium, Kirtipur. 

Six corporate houses are known to participate in the league which is organized by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and managed by Zohra Sports Management (ZSM). All the six teams are led by National cricket team heroes. The six teams are Kantipur Gurkhas, Vishal Group Warriors, Jagadamba Giants, Sagarmatha Legends, Tej and Colors X Factors, which are owned by big names in business houses Kantipur Media Group, Vishal Group, Shankar Groups, Ghorahi Cements, Panchakanya Group and Teletalk Pvt. Ltd. 

Basanta Regmi leads Kantipur Gukhras whereas Paras Khadka is the captain of Vishal Warriors. Similarly Shakti Gauchan leads Jagadamba Giants, Binod Bhandari for Sagarmatha legends, Sharad Veswakar for Tej and Gyanendra Malla captains Colors X Factor. 

Despite the shortage of cricket stadiums, we are holding this first edition of NPL, a National Cricket Tournament in two formats (ODI and T20). It is obvious that this short of events will help the growth of Nepali Cricket, filling the gap of domestic cricket tournament. 

Winners for each format are known to get Rs 200,000 (which is not that hefty sum but is nice to start with). Ncell is the sole sponsor of the Tournament which has made a deal for 2 years.

Chauka Chakka hanincha World cup khelincha: Nepali cricket team victory rally in Kathmandu

There were news regarding the huge crowd in the airport to welcome Nepali Cricket team back to their country, after their world cup t20 qualification in UAE. It was known that the crowd loudly chanted, "chaukka chakka hanincha world cup khelincha"( we will hit 4s 6s in the world cup play), but I missed taking video as I was not there. Today there was the procession of Nepali cricket team in Kathmandu, which I met accidentally during my office work and stopped to take the video of the victory rally. 

Lets hope our boys will play up to the mark to reach Super 10 of World T20 Cricket, where we will be able to compete with biggest teams like India, Australia, Pakistan, Srilanka.
